This
letter is to give you some background to my practice
philosophy and to help you decide whether your goal
for your health is the same as ours. If it is not you are likely to feel more comfortable in the
care of a more conventional dentist.
New Patients
Moonfleet for Biological Dentistry
Mary and I would like to thank you for your interest in Moonfleet where we aim to provide a full range of biological dentistry.
Many practices concentrate on the mechanical, cosmetic or functional aspects of dentistry (and these of course are vitally important) but we also believe that the dentistry we provide must take account of the whole of the patient’s biological system.
We aim to provide the most biocompatible care possible.
We recognise that patients come to us with different needs and expectations and from different starting points. Some of you will never have had a dental filling, more of you will have had many and often they have been replaced once or twice. For others gum disease will be a problem or you might suspect that you have a bone cavitation. For these and other reasons one size will not fit all and we have developed a system to ensure that we can tailor our service to your needs. Please take a little time to select which of the following categories you most closely fit:
Category H (healthy)
This patient has no significant health concerns and is not looking to revise their current dental situation but wishes their future dentistry to be provided on a mercury and metal free basis and with a more “wholistic” approach.
Category C patients (concerned)
This is the patient who either has some early health problems or wishes to be more proactive and wants to look at the feasibility of undertaking a full or partial dental revision in a holistic, mercury/metal-free way.
Category U (unwell)
This patient has definite health issues they are hoping to improve with dental intervention.
Category P (pain)
This is a patient with a specific pain problem (it may not even be from a specific tooth or teeth) which they suspect is of dental origin.
The initial examination and consultation will be different for each category
Cat H Examination- 30 minutes for the under 25s, 45 minutes for those over 25years
Range of jaw motion
Jaw muscles
Periodontal (gum) screen
Microscopic plaque analysis (if there is a gum problem)
Teeth and dental restorations
Occlusion (bite)
Cancer screen
Saliva PH test
In addition you will be invited to bring along a urine sample for testing.
A full report of our findings and recommendations will be provided.
Cat C Examination- 60 minutes
Same exam as above but in addition:
Metabolic clearing profile
Cranial motion/alignment and the effect of the bite on this
Galvanic activity of the restorations
Tooth vitality
Functional acuity contrast test
Our report will include discussion on such issues as nutritional support, root canal treatments, cavitations, meridian relationships and detox options.
Cat U examination- 90 mins
A full category C exam with the addition of:
Study models of the teeth where appropriate
Full health history
Heart rate variability (HRV) test
Autonomic reflex testing (ART)
These further tests will help to determine which complementary therapies we may need to recommend in addition or even instead of any dentistry. Do please bring with you any supplements
A full report and discussion of relevant issues will be provided.
Cat P examination- 60 mins
This examination will be unique to the presenting problem and each patient will be asked to return a pain chart and history.
A full report will be provided.
The urine test is optional but highly recommended and if you need spectacles for reading please bring them along. Category U patients need to wear loose clothing and easily removable shoes to allow us to place a chest belt and to test your neuronal reflexes.
Once the appropriate medical forms and charts have been returned we can book your initial consultation so do not worry if you are unsure into which category you fit as we will advise you.
We look forward to meeting you.
Yours truly,
John Ahearne.
